Knowledge about adjuvants and mucosal immunology would be a real advantage. The candidate should be able to run immunological assays to quantify antibody responses (ELISA, neutralisation assays, Luminex assays) and to analyse cellular responses (Flow cytometry, ELISpot) in preclinical models (mice).

Organization Description
The laboratory is located in the department of Pathophysiology and biotherapies of mucosal infections (GIMAP) at the University of Saint-Etienne in France. The GIMAP is part of the International Center for Infectiology Research (CIRI, ENS Lyon / UCBL / UJM / Inserm / U1111 - CNRS UMR5308).

Position Description
Developing a vaccine against HIV which induces protective immune responses remains challenging but advances in mRNA vaccine technology could offer some hope for HIV vaccine development. mRNA vaccination was a game changer during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic even though this vaccine platform needs to be optimized in order to improve the longevity of responses, to reduce the reactogenicity and to increase mucosal responses.

Project
This project will be focused on mucosal mRNA vaccination and adjuvants in the context of HIV vaccine development. In vitro and in vivo models will be used to assess protective mucosal and systemic immune responses.
